My look on fashion
When I created my blog and wrote my first article, I had already considered writing about fashion, one of my passion. So here I am.
Today fashion offers women a wide range of choices regarding both the choice and style of clothes but also our budget.
Everything is in the right balance of our outfit and it is important for each one of us to understand why we will be noticed. We might be noticed because we look ridiculous and we might be noticed not because we want to but simply because we wear our clothes, with class and elegance.
For example, not everyone can wear a miniskirt, not just because of the obvious reasons but because even with a gorgeous body a woman in a miniskirt might feel uncomfortable and this will be noticed right away.
So when wearing a miniskirt do it with taste and with comfort. Then whoever decides to wear a mini-skirt, should avoid a neckline and wear subtle make-up, otherwise she might quickly be categorized. Personally I’ve always preferred miniskirt in winter with dark stockings. But everyone has their own taste and I respect it.
Among the many existing quotes about fashion, there is one in particular that I still find current and that many women know by heart: « Fashion fades, only style remains the same ». Coco Chanel
Fashion fades, I will rather say, fashion changes, goes away, comes back. I often I think that I should never have thrown away so many of my clothes in the past.
I’m always amazed by what I see in fashion magazines. I am actually referring to the Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 advertising campaign for an eminent brand: two marvelous models are photographed wearing two beautiful tweed suits with sneakers also in tweed. All that seems very nice, graceful… But if I try on the very same outfit something will look wrong, and not just because of my age. Or perhaps the wisdom that age has given me, tells me not to dare like I used to.
This contradiction between glossy magazines and reality fascinates me.
Ever since I was a child, I have always loved frills, voluminous skirts made of tulle and glitters. Even today I find it hard to resist, (personally I also dare glitters during the day, because it’s possible to discretely assort them with the right choice of combination).
Should I feel guilty about that ??? Of course not! It’s stronger than me…
Then if I watch Sex and the city, when I see Carrie, I’m more and more convinced that if worn appropriately and with a good taste, anything is beautiful.
A weekly italian publication, that I regularly read is unique in presenting trends and giving advice on how to mix and match clothes in a somewhat daring manner. In addition to that, my inner voice often tells me what I should keep and get rid of, not only because of my age and for the sake of good taste but also because of my personality. Even if I can be eccentric at times, my dressing code has its own touch, my touch, or should I say may « French touche » as I have been told many times.
A famous italian Designer once wrote about French women and stated that we had a lot more personality when it comes to fashion, and I totally agree with that. I can easily say that we are less attached to brands or « labels » despite the respect we have for creative and famous designers.
Then, one day, I met my « fashion » soul mate, my friend Meri (ckeck instagram MissMeriVintage and Facebook). It was wonderful, every morning, at work, during a coffee break discuss how we were dressed that day, congratulating each other on how we looked and exchanging ideas about good deals. This woman really knows how to match vintage clothes and make them look fashionable again. Furthermore, she is beautiful, with her porcelain skin, her long eyelashes, her blue eyes and her body which perfectly fits her style.
I am always thumbing through fashion magazines, visiting fashion websites, I consider myself a fashion fanatic… I’m never bored, I just love it, I keep reading and day dreaming about it.
Another ring I love doing is to sit at the café’s terrace and watch people. People watching is one of my favorite past time and when it comes to fashion, it is a feat for the eyes.
Colors are very important to me, especially during the winter. I truly love designers who use daring and bright colors in winter, it has a positive impact on my mood.
People often question me about my » French touch » and sometimes ask me: Where do you find all this stuff?
My secret? Never disregard any shop, even the ones which do not inspire you. Remember you can always find something you will love and get a good deal. When you see it you think: « it will perfectly match the skirt I have at home ».
It’s true, you need to have time and know your wardrobe very well. Visualize what you have and be aware of what you don’t. When you go window shopping, lower your expectations because usually the more I look for something specific, the less I find it. I always go alone to explore shops, I look and I quickly go back, in order not to lose the opportunity. Sometimes I am disappointed when I try it but it rarely happens. As I’ve just said, it’s a question of expectation.
Here I am and I am proud of being who I am !!!
